Learning from the Environment: Students and Teachers at the University of Michigan
Hello
Hello and welcome to my Writing 220: Introduction to Minor in Writing website which houses my extended experiment! My name is Rebecca Fite. I am a junior in Program in the Environment and in the Writing minor at University of Michigan. I started this minor during the Winter 2024 semester because I have always enjoyed writing and wanted to develop my writing voice to complement my environmental studies.
The Beginnings
My project for this course was inspired by my origin piece which was a video poem I created at age seven during a writing camp at Oakland University, about my relationship with my family’s loving dog Reggie (2011-2023).
This Project
Working with my classmates, I realized that the topic I wanted to embark on was to better understand belonging as it relates to community and the environment in the face of a loneliness epidemic and climate change. This encouraged me to further connect with my graduate student instructors this semester who are both students and teachers of the environment. I hope you enjoy what I have written!
